How do I print, copy, or scan in the library?
Answer
Printing: The Library provides two printers for use by Oregon Tech students, faculty, and staff, located near the Library Help Desk.
Student Printing Allotment:
- Each student receives $8.00 in free printing per term, equal to 100 black-and-white pages.
- This balance refreshes on the first day of each new term.
- If the full $8.00 is used during the term, additional print jobs will be automatically billed to the student's administrative account.
To Print from an Oregon Tech-Owned Laptop or Desktop Computer:
- When sending your print job, select Follow Me Printer from the list of available printers.
- Your job will be stored virtually and can be released from any printer on campus connected to the network.
To Print from a Personal Device:
- Go to webprint.oit.edu and sign in with your TechWeb credentials.
- Select Web Print from the menu on the left.
- Choose the Follow Me Printer, enter the number of copies, and upload your file.
- Release your print job at any campus printer using the same sign-in steps as above.
To Release Your Print Job From a Library Printer:
- Go to the printer and use the touchscreen to sign in with your 918#.
- Select Print Release and select the documents to print.
- Collect your pages from the tray.
Copying: The Library's printers also function as copiers. Copying charges, like print jobs, are deducted from student print balances.
To make copies:
- Sign into the machine using your 918#.
- Select Device Functions, then choose Copy.
- Adjust the settings as needed (e.g., number of copies, double-sided, color or black and white, etc.).
- Press Start to begin copying.
- Collect your copies from the output tray.
Scanning: The Library provides two options for scanning materials: a KIC Overhead Scanner, which is ideal for large books, delicate items, or oversized documents, and flatbed scanners that are built into the library’s printers. Both options allow users to scan documents for free and email the files to themselves; the KIC scanner also allows users to save files to a USB drive.
Scanning Using the KIC Overhead Scanner:
- Place the item to be scanned face-up on the flatbed.
- If saving scanned images to a USB drive, insert the drive into the USB port located on the front of the monitor.
- Use the touch screen to adjust your desired settings, such as resolution, color saturation, and text recognition.
- When ready to scan, press the large Scan button on the touchscreen. Repeat this step for additional pages if needed.
- To email your scanned file, tap the Email button and enter your email address in the pop-up window.
Scanning Using the Flatbed Scanner on a Library Printer:
- Sign in to the printer using your 918#.
- Press the Scan button.
- Choose Send to My Email or Email to Other Recipient.
- To customize your scan, press Settings and adjust options like resolution, color mode, and file type.
If using the document feeder tray (best for multiple loose pages):
- Place your stacked originals face-up in the feeder tray on top of the scanner lid.
- The tray will detect the documents and automatically move into position.
- Press Scan. Once all pages have been fed through, your scanned file will be emailed to you automatically.
If using the flatbed scanner (best for books or single sheets):
- Open the scanner lid and place your document face-down in the upper left corner of the glass.
- To scan multiple pages into a single file, check the Prompt for More Pages box next to the Scan button.
- Press Scan. Repeat for each page as prompted.
- When finished, the complete file will be emailed to you.
